Autumn/winter is the best time to plant fruit trees, people say. No droughts as in the summer time ensure best growth and maybe even a few fruits in the upcoming season. We’re planting about 50 fruit trees, from apples to pears, cherries, figs, persimmons, apricots, plums, prunes, nectarines, peaches, and even feijoas which we recently learned to love. Also some nut trees like hazelnuts, almonds and chestnuts.
I spent ages researching all the varieties and picking the best ones of our property and taste. Buying them turned out to be even a bigger challenge though. Each nursery offers only a few varieties and even those not all year round. You have to be there right in time it seems. But we’re confident to complete our orchard within the next 2 months.
