On this (public holi)day, every year at the 6th of Feb, the signation of the Treaty of Waitangi is celebrated. It should settle differences between Maori and Pakeha (Not-Maori, mostly European), but still there seems to be quite an inequity about these two groups. Nonetheless, on this day, the Marae (Maori settlements) are open to visitors – in Nelson we attended a kai festival (all about food :) at the Founders Park, very special. Deep fried bread (like to Austrian Bauernkrapfen), filled either with sugar, marmelade or kina (kind of shellfish).
