When you go from Wanaka to Queenstown, dont’t go the Hwy 6 along the Kawarau. It may be beautiful, but in December, the Crown Range is the faster and much more beautiful option – zillions of lupins grow and bloom along the Cardrona River and if you stop by the Pisa Recreation Area the smell of all these flowers really engulfs you completely. I like lupins :)
