Between Kekerengu and Kaikoura the rocky shore is alive with NZ fur seals at this time of the year, this year’s seal pups wallowing in the sun. Had some pretty close encounters, but always some metres between us in height (from the cliffs above) so they wouldn’t be startled – seal’s bites can be nasty and infectious, and they easily outrun people on short distance (never go between a seal and the sea).
