The little cabin we rented wasn’t ready when we got there so we had to take another walk (but it was what we were there for anyway): Wharariki Beach. Out there, between the rocks, in the little caves and even on the beach itself, wallowing in sunwarmed water pools at low tide, the New Zealand Fur Seals are to be found. It’s a rather big colony, the first seal pups being born from now on until the end of the year. We didn’t see any pups but some adults lazing around. The walk to the beach was about 1 km from the camp but it is a windy spot, we didn’t get as much heated up as in the morning.
