One of the biggest colonies of gannets in NZ is housed at the cape, or exactly, at the Black Reef. At Cliffton, the street has a dead end, with a walk of 12 km that can only be done sucessfully at low tide – or by tour (which doesn’t make sense at this time of the year, earliest end of this month, someone told us). But: the sandy/stony/rocky beach offered us great views and the kids hat a very relaxed morning.
